1950 CHEVY SUBURBAN
This suburban was built by L&L Street Rods especially for co-owner Gordy a.k.a. Dad/Grandpa. We started with an original 50 suburban and wanted to build something totally different. After careful planning we decided to put Corvette suspension under it, front and rear. As you can see from the photos, we built an all tubular chassis and mounted in a 468 big block Chevy with a 400 turbo trans. After the chassis was finished the body was reunited with the frame. The entire floor and firewall were rebuilt in-house. The doors were suicided and hidden hinges were added to the back doors. Custom running boards were also fabricated. We cut the roof skin off a late 90’s Tahoe and took the ugly domed roof off the suburban and replaced it with a flat-ribbed roof that not only lowered the roofline 6” but gave it a whole new look without sacrificing window openings. The new flat-ribbed roof gave the suburban a chopped look without being chopped. All door handles and emblems were removed along with the drip rails. A custom grill was made to enhance the look of the front end. After all of the sheet metal and body work was done the chassis was powder coated by Extreme Powder Coating of Blooming Prairie, MN. The body was painted with PPG Aquabase Jet Black on the bottom and Candy Apple Red on the top. The entire body was sanded and buffed to a mirror-like finish. The interior was done by Boss Custom Street Rod Interiors of Evansdale, IA. The interior is a work of art that truly needs to be seen to be appreciated. The changes that are listed above are only a few of the many changes that were made to this vehicle. The name given to this vehicle is the “Mob Boss”. This nick name was chosen because of the colors of the suburban and that fact that Gordy is viewed as the leader/boss at the shop.
